GATE tests comprehensive understanding of undergraduate engineering and science subjects. The score is used for M.Tech and Ph.D. admission with MHRD scholarships, for direct recruitment by several public sector undertakings, and increasingly for research fellowships.
A bachelor's degree in engineering, technology, architecture, science, commerce or arts, or in the final year of one.
One 3-hour paper in a chosen subject, 65 questions and 100 marks, mixing multiple-choice, multiple-select and numerical-answer questions. Scores are valid for three years.
